Dr. Agness has
for 30 years.
Previous to that, she had teaching experience in preschool, elementary, and special education programs.
Dr. Agness has also been a private practice educational consultant. She has been a presenter at more than
fifty national and international conferences. Many of these presentations have provided teachers with
knowledge and training that would assist them in working with children who are homeless. Dr. Agness has
several publications describing the educational issues of children who are homeless.
Her recently published book, No Place at the Table; America’s Homeless Children, has had a local and
national impact on the public’s understanding of the many crises with which homeless children must deal.
Dr. Agness’s many community awards have been for her volunteer work with children in several shelters in
Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Retired college professor (taught in IPFW since 1980)
Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education, Doctoral degree in Special Education
Served on several boards (Crossroads, etc.) Board president for four years at Rescue Mission and Hand
in Hand Ministries.
Husband, Tom, is a retired Army helicopter pilot who served in Viet Nam.
Two adult married daughters, Laura and Rebecca.
